The renovation of the barns are nearly complete! This past summer we replaced lots of rotten boards and put on a fresh coat of paint. A fence, donated by the Farwell Family of Belfast, has been installed and painted. The statue of John L. Sullivan is now in place on a podium made with rocks from the Genesee River. Our next step is to electrify the barns, but all in all we are ready for visitors, so please call to set up a private tour! By phone, (585) 610-3326 or email srburt@aol.com.

John L.'s Secret Stash

This treasure may, indeed, have come from John L. Sullivan himself! While restoring the smaller barn - where Sullivan stayed on those nights he had too much to drink and wasn't allowed in the Muldoon house - we found a jug marked Erie Distillery Company, Buffalo NY wedged between the floor boards and the support beam. The bits of newspaper wrapped around the cork put the jug in the right time period!

Curcio Family Returns Original Muldoon Couch & Chair
The Curcio Family of Belfast recently made a wonderful return to the Hall of Fame in memory of their daughter, Amanda.  The original Muldoon-owned couch and chair was removed from the barns years ago to preserve them from possible damage caused by a terribly leaky roof.  Now the barns have been restored, they have been returned.

Found In The Walls!
During the restoration, this part of a shipping crate fell out of the wall when we took the clapboards off. It is a shipping crate addressed to Mrs. Josephine Muldoon. Mrs. Josephine Muldoon was William Muldoon's first wife, from whom he was divorced. Muldoon also had a niece named Josephine Muldoon, who was approximately five years old at the time that Sullivan trained in Belfast.
